About Us

Blind Pioneers focusses on how to educate blind and visually impaired students. It showcases students using the latest techniques and technology. Students are given a voice about how they learn best and give advice on how they like to access materials and participate in activities. With everything from legal articles, to how-to videos and creative reflections- Blind Pioneers demystifies blindness.

Jillian Milton (top) is a sophomore at the University of Connecticut majoring in Digital Media and Design. She has been legally blind her whole life and knows what a good educational experience looks like. She has been advocating for her accommodations, including pioneering unique solutions which were later adopted by other students. She has also participated in many extracurriculars such as marching band, track and field, and Girls Who Code.

Magaly Milton (bottom) is Jillian's mother, and she is an educational consultant. She works with parents of blind children to advocate for children's services in school. Magaly served as a Board member of SPAN, a NJ SSEAC (Statewide Special Education Advisory Council) parent member, the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) Consumer Advisory Board, the CBVI Strategic Planning Committee and the CBVI Education Reform Taskforce. As a non-attorney advocate, Magaly is knowledgable about disability rights. Magaly graduated cum laude with a degree in Social Studies from Harvard University.
